Sizing and selection of process equipment

A request for equipment nearly always arrives carrying flow and pressure, and nearly never carrying the figures that actually decide. The real liquid temperature, the suction head available, the solids content and the number of starts per day are missing from most specifications, and they are what determine whether the machine will hold or wear out in six months.

Our specialists start from those figures before any brand is named, then match your duty point against the curves of the lines we carry and check the wetted materials and the sealing arrangement. DRN Industriel has sized and selected process equipment for more than 35 years.

What a wrong selection looks like from the floor

An oversized machine is the commonest error, because it looks like caution. It runs against a part-closed valve, draws more power than the estimate, shakes at low frequency and chews through seals and bearings long before their time. An undersized machine shows itself differently: it holds at start-up and then gives way as soon as the system fouls. In both cases the maintenance shop sees wear parts coming back too often, and the file gets logged as a parts quality problem.

From process data to a specified machine

Send the liquid and its working temperature, the flow and head you need, the net positive suction head available, the solids content and the duty cycle. We put that point back on the curves available, confirm the suction margin holds at the real working temperature rather than the nameplate one, then propose the arrangement, the wetted materials and the sealing method, together with the lines that suit it.

The safety margin that costs the most

Adding ten percent everywhere feels like caution and is not. Each margin stacked on top of the last pushes the duty point left along the curve, into the region where radial thrust bends the shaft and efficiency falls away. Useful caution means measuring the real figure, not inflating it.

Have your duty point reviewed

Give us the liquid, the temperature, the flow and the head. You get a documented selection back rather than a list of models to compare yourself.
